  • Pinto ground clearance

I'm sure this has been asked before, but my YKC roadster with a 1600 pinto has very little ground clearance. The K and N air filter is the highest point. I could re route that and raise the engine mount plates, but , then exhaust needs modification, and steering column clearance??
Does anyone have any ideas. I thought about reduced oil sump?
Ground clearance is about four inches, a previous owner has fitted a sump guard so it's down to three inches.
The trials guys of course must jack up the suspension but the sump is well below the chassis rails.

Apparently Mk 3 Granada sump are shallower but you may have to alter oil pickup pipe. There are of course those from the rallying guys , Rs 2000 and the like but likely to be expensive.
My Alfa engine doesn't have a whole lot either but has survived over 20 years use so I don't worry about it.

      Re: Pinto ground clearance

I have sourced a modified sump, as in Haynes book. One inch shorter, then I can take off the sump guard.

The sump from a Pinto in a Capri gains better ground clearance, better still is the alloy sump from an Escort RS, and of course you need to change the oil pick up pipes . This info is in the tec tips for Berlinettas.

It might be better to ask Jeff Bezos — (top of the rich list $108.9 billion).
