  • Brushed aluminium finish on my Roadster

As you may have seen I have decided to go Red and brushed aluminium look on my Roadster.

I am happy with the brushed look on the aluminium which was achieved by using a Scotchbrite pad, WD40 which was then cleaned and a couple of coats of clear lacquer.

All fibreglass parts, except suspension covers, are painted in Rustoleum Bright Red.

The suspension covers are fibreglass but I wanted the same brushed aluminium look on those to.

After much experimentation I have at last come up with an acceptable alternative to getting them made out of aluminium.

Tools required are Halfords Enamel Spray Paint (silver) Halfords Clear Lacquer and a Scotchbrite pad. Oh and a can of Halfords Grey Primer.

    1. Rough up paint with the Scotchbrite Pad
    2. Spray item with primer
    3. Let dry
    4. Spray with 2 coats of enamel
    5. Let dry for 15 minutes between coats
    6. Let dry fully
    7. Using Scotchbrite pad, lightly rub the enamel top coat in the direction you want your the brush look
    8. Spray 2 coats of the lacquer
    7. Let dry for 15 minutes between coats
    8. Let dry fully
    9. Done, see pictures

Remember this is only the test piece so the look I am going for is the shown on the top, ignore the sides.

    Adrian
