  • Don't tell Boris

I haven't used my Roadster for 15 days which is a long time for me and what with the big clampdown on Marlin use I was getting stir crazy. When the memsahib said we needed essential stuff getting I was dead keen to oblige. I went to a small M&S food store about 5 miles away (country roads) and it was delightful! Felt a bit guilty but a chap's got to live eh?

Boris said you can go out for essentials he didn't say what mode of transport, the detail is in the wording. Just the old bill have other ideas.

Some police are saying only to your nearest shop, wherever that is.

Nearby wherever that may be and for whatever the shop sells. 'Overzealous' policeman.

Enjoy discussing that with a magistrate.

Certainly here in Spain the rules are applied differently, strangely its the Brits that seem to be breaking them the most, and are most indignant.

Whatever you are buying must be considered essential, there is very little that the average supermarket, or even the small village stores stock, that isn’t essential, except for medicines and pharmaceuticals which are of course exempt.

Near me is a massive Carrefour supermarket, selling pretty much everything except the kitchen sink, just under a month ago, I bought a pair of windscreen wiper blades there, as whilst I was in hospital, mine got shredded. On a visit last week many things presumably considered non essential by the government had been removed, like my wiper blades, and large areas of the store aisles cordoned off from shoppers.

Over the Easter period we have had the Policia Local, the Guardia Civil and now the Military manning road blocks. They are specifically targeting people from the big cities like Madrid who own coastal holiday homes from travelling. Many are being turned around because their journey of several hundred Km is not considered essential.

Its a fact of life that we are all going to have to get used to if we collectively want to beat this virus.

Recent guidance from No 10, based on is that if a shop is open you can buy anything in it See https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ond-homes.html. Also after over zealous policement cautioned a family for playing in their own garden, No10 said that was allowed too. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51506729

Interesting to hear about Spain. Its certainly quieter round here today with no motor bikes heading for the Peak District unlike last Sunday.

Yes, Spain definitely has the right ideas to impose a lock down. A friend who lives in Murcia told me that only one person is allowed in a car and even then you have to be going somewhere close and specific to buy essentials, to collect medicine or you are a front line worker. Other than that, no leaving the house, period.

And last night, some kn*b heads round the corner from me threw a big BBQ party FFS. Obviously point 2 in Steve's post. How can some people not get the severity of whats going on?

And meanwhile, back in England, I have just read that a family of 4 have been stopped, fined, and escorted out of Devon, for travelling 200 miles from London to Devon for a spot of fishing...ffs!

allegedly a couple from north London, stopped a policeman in Brighton, asking where the nearest open fish and chip shop was, with the inevitable results.
At the same time, Brighton residents were complying about a waste of police resources when an ANPR van was operating on a main road into town. I disagree if people are planning 100 mile round trips as though nothing is happening deserve to get arrested.

The point is, that with the nature of Corona, you can be infectious without any symptoms, for two weeks. So you have no idea whether you are infectious or not.
Your best policy therefore is to behave as though you are infectious.
I and a few of my neighbours are in high risk groups, we often exchange telephone calls, but now and again we meet up at a nearby carpark, near by are our post boxes and communal waste disposal facilities. We can easily maintain 2m or more social distancing, but we don’t hang about for more than 5 mins. It’s comforting to put a real face to a voice. My lockdown beard is quite a point of conversation.
