The door pull cable from the interior handle to the lock has broken. I seem to remember I used a cable from a Fiesta Mk1 2door model. Has anyone got an idea of where to get a replacement, I've spend half a day doing Google searches without any success.

Several types listed on eBay as Fiesta door lock cable. My guess is that you will find one there.

Thanks Steve, but all the cables listed are for Mk5 and Mk6 Fiestas. Been there and bought one, the ends are different. Also mostly for 5 door models and the cable isn't long enough, the 2 door model has longer doors.

I did have 2 from i believe were Sierra rear doors . Both went to a member on here who went under 'Peterboat'. I know he only needed one so may still have another if you can contact him somehow.

Couldn't you make a replacement using a bicycle brake cable and a couple of solder-less nipples or similar?

I seem to remember that the ones I used came from the donor Sierra.

Funnily enough I think the problem is that the cable was a bit too long and it was difficult to get it into a realtively smooth shape. The standard Sierra door cable was just too short and only the 2 door fiesta seemed long enough. The plastic outer was inflexible and as it aged I think that is why it cracked and broke.
I've also had a reply from speedy cable who could make one up give mine as patterns.
    So loads of alternatives.....

    Hi Ben,
that is my plan B. I had bought a Mk6 door cable before I realised the fittings had changed so to test the theory bike cable theory I made a prototype using it. Major problem is the fittings at either end need to be grafted onto the bike brake cable. It resulted in a hideous bodge at the join, although it would be out of sight inside the door.

    Hi Chris

With regard to the cycle cable adaptation . As you have mentioned its unseen inside the door,
have you tried using the brass 2 screw part from inside a plastic insulated cable block?
These are available in 2 sizes for different diameter wires, in case the most common size isn't big enough.

However,if you have to use the barrel part to locate inside the lock, cut it of with side cutters , drill a hole the size of the cable you have and then affix the barrel using the brass bit with 2 screws removed from the wire joining connector block on the end.

The Ford Puma interior door release cable may be suitable as it shares parts with the fiesta Mk4 2 door.

Contact someone who is breaking those cars and ask them to measure it for you. you maybe lucky and its the correct length.

Otherwise as Ben says, solder the end on using a blowlamp to heat it.

Could you maybe send all the broken one to Speedy Cables in Cardiff together with the required length of the new one?
