    Ye Ol Ripper.
Thanks for the advice, I have frequently been accused of over engineering a solution.
Yes I intended to make the length adjustable. If I have to go down this route then I will probably use only one length of stud and not two although the gap between the two ends will be bigger to allow the cable to move the required amount to open the door.
    So far I have:
    a) Ordered two Escort cables (Hoping they are long enough and of a suitable vintage with the correct ends.)
    b) Ordered one Puma cable (I have a suspicion the ends might be wrong...)
    c) Been in conatct with an ex-Marlin owner who has two cables from a sierra that he is going to send me for the cost of the postage.

The original problem with the cables is that the outer sheath is made of plastic and has become brittle and broken, When it broke the inner kinked and despite my attempts to make a splint it does not run freely anymore.

    Hi Chris
Just a thought, if you use a cable and outer sleeve a touch longer than you had previously would you then be able to run a larger curve, perhaps cable tying the outer cable to the inside of the door somehow?
It might make the door release smoother and the cable also last longer too.

Funnily enough I think the problem is that the cable was a bit too long and it was difficult to get it into a realtively smooth shape. The standard Sierra door cable was just too short and only the 2 door fiesta seemed long enough. The plastic outer was inflexible and as it aged I think that is why it cracked and broke.
I've also had a reply from speedy cable who could make one up give mine as patterns.
    So loads of alternatives.....

Out of interest, what interior door handles are people using? My car is missing them and there is a fairly long cable arrangement in the door cavity. The shape of the hole on the door looks very familiar as a sort of pointy rectangular shape.

I seem to remember that the ones I used came from the donor Sierra.

These are what I have. I believe they came out the donor Sierra, certainly look like the one's I had in my 1.6 Sierra back in '92.
