    OK, may be an obvious question but on my 1300 a series engine I have a pipe going from the bottom of the rad to the top of the head, which way does the water flow so that I can connect a heater control valve for the heater?

    It's just a simple bypass control valve, just on or off.

    Adrian. A pipe from the bottom of the rad to the top of the head sounds wrong to me. It's years since I've worked on an A Series but the B-Series (and Ford Crossflow) have the thermostat housing (and outlet to radiator) in the head and the pipe from this goes to the top of the radiator. The water then flows down through the radiator, out through the pipe at the bottom, then back to the base of the block somewhere.

        In original form the A series had the bottom hose [pump to radiator] with a stub pipe incorporated into it. From this a steel pipe ran down one side of the rocker cover to the heater via the inlet manifold if you had the heated type. The other side of the heater was supplied from the back of the cylinder head. As this would be the first to reach temperature I assume that to be the supply to heater and the other pipe the return via the bottom hose.

            Sounds logical to me.

            Looking at Morris Miner pictures they seem to have a on/off rather than a by-pass heater control?

            Do I need a by-pass control or just a off/on tap?

                  OK, Dave, our archivist's, just spoken to me and it's now sorted in my head.

                  I just over thought it, it's easier than I first envisaged.

                  Will start a new day tomorrow and fit the T7 heater I have had sitting in the garage.
