  • "O" series radiator(see previous Q )

For Brian and Bob and others . WHAT RADIATOR WORKS WITH THE "O" SERIES ENGINE Besides having a special one made which would cost a bomb.
Ben Caswell probably not the last word on anything here!!

Could try old model Audi 80 - works with my 1800 B series in a roadster far far better than Moorhouse recommended Chevette. Fits between chassis rails, prob'ly from 1980s Audi. No cooling problems since.

T'other thing I have heard is that the old Austin/Morris 1800 rad works well in bigger engined Marlins. For the record I also have a kenlowe, but it only runs in traffic queues (except in the heatwave earlier this summer).

        Ben,
Take your Viva / Chevette radiator to a specialist and ask him to fit a larger capacity core. I have just had this done to mine as I have a mildly tuned Fiat twin cam which was suffering in the heat wave. It only cost me ?80. A new recon viva rad from serck was going to be ?85 so not quite the bomb that I was expecting. Make sure the fan is fitted correctly for its design. My electric fan had been fitted to the rear (engine side) of the rad and wired backward so that it sucked. It was infact designed to be a blower and should have been fitted to the front of the rad. According to kenlowe this would have reduced the efficiency by about 30%.

I also had a larger capacity core fitted to my Viva/Chevette rad when I fitted a 2 litre Alfa engine and have had no over heating problems even when stuck in traffic in mid France with the outside temperature in the 80's. I also had a thermo-static switch fitted into the rad which comes on at a relatively low pre-set temperature (c.85C from memory) and a manual over-ride on the dash which I tend to switch on if I think I might get stuck in traffic. The only slight problem is that the fan can run for quite some time after the engine is switched off but this should not be an issue if the battery is in good nick.
