  • Help needed to identify the fuel tank in my roadster

    Hi

I am trying to identify the fuel tank currently in my Marina based Roadster. I believe it should be a Mk1/2 escort estate, but looking at pictures on line and in the build manual it doesn’t look the same.

    hopefully someone can identify it.

    Thanks

That looks like a custom tank to me

That’s what I was thinking, similar to the one I had made for PKK.
      - 9th owner of T693 SSC possibly a factory built Ford based V8 Sportster
      - 4th owner of Q309 RNV, an early Cabrio built by Bob Copping, owned Doug & Liz Billings for 16 years
      - 9th Custodian of JRR 929D, Triumph Vitesse based special Paul Moorehouse built prior to the Triumph Roadster kits.
      - 8th owner of Roadster chassis number 2395. Now owned by Barry!
      - Builder of chassis number 2325 (PKK 989M) in the mid 80's. Now owned by Eric & Lynne.

Custom tank, not a Ford standard.

Thanks guys or should I say tanks, I thought it looked special, I guess I will need to get another made. Anyone know a good supplier, I don’t want an aluminium one as I trial so it need to be steel. I’m in Gloucestershire so anywhere near would be good.

Is there something wrong with the tank? Can it not be repaired?

It’s got some rust on the hangers but the main problem is a big dent in the bottom, which may be possible to correct through the gauge hole. I would also like a gauge that works fitted

Now you want the fuel gauges thread. I cut the sender out of a Marina sender and silver soldered it to the ford pipe. Bending the float wire to suit. It reads right FSD empty to full.

I have a very good Ford escort estate/ van tank, and I am located near junction 4 of the M5.

Re: Help needed to identify the fuel tank in my roadster

I made my tank myself when I build my Roadster in 1985. I based its dimensions around the original marine Sender. I fabricated it out of 16 gauge mild steel sheet using heavy duty angle and a large engineers vice to form the bends. It was seam welded by a welder at work using the then ubiquitous packet of fags economy, cost me 20 Bensons. I pressure tested it at 5 psi which blew the welding deformity out of the tank top surface. Capacity is about 7 Gallons.

                        Regards to All.

                        Mick

Apologies that I don't check the Forum more frequently. The tank in the first pictures is almost certainly a 'Steve Holder Special'. I have recently replaced mine with an aluminium copy. If you want more info please email [email protected]. I am in Cheltenham so you're welcome to come and view my car.
