  • Rear Dampers

While the rear axle is off, I thought it might be timely to replace the rear dampers - they're working ok but are 23 years old! Can anyone remind me what they are and/or what I should replace them with? Seem to think they were Monroe shockers for a vauxhall?? (I should have said - 1800TC Marina-based SWB Mk.2 Roadster.)

    Thanks.

Part No. Monroe R3258. I bought a pair from Halfords 12 months ago . Cost ?45.88 inc vat. I phoned the order to the local shop and they took 2 days. I noticed the other day that the paint finish has gone off badly, paint them before fitting.

Painting them over the existing paint wont help a lot. Think about all the work shocks do. The effort of stopping the car bouncing about is turned into heat so the stiffer your set up the hotter they get. Thats why the paint deteriorates.Wait till the guarantee is up, then try repainting with heat resistant paint.
Ben Caswell probably not the last word on anything here!!
