  • Help....Wheel Studs!

    Message originally posted by: Bruce
From the attached photo, can anyone identify what my mystery wheel stud is? I thought they might be Dolomite but apparently not. Could they be from the Marina van? Any thoughts?

I've been reassembling a spare rear axle to replace the original 1800 TC Marina item. Unfortunately, the replacement axle is missing two wheel studs. However, when swapping the studs over from the original Marina hub, I find they don't fit the new hub. Looking more closely at the shape/profile of the stud head, they are subtley different.

Does anyone know what they are or where I can get them from - or better still, does anyone have any spares in the garage? (just name your price!!)

As always, your advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks, Bruce.

PS. I have previously been onto Rimmer Bros but the Dolomite studs they supplied were just slightly longer versions of the original Marina studs.

I have had a rummage in my cupboard and found 4 different types from either Triumph or Marina axles .. Dont know whats from what. the top two are slightly different and they are the only ones. If they are any help the Email your address to b.caswell(at)virgin.net and they are yours

Ben. Thanks for taking the trouble to look. The top stud in your photo certainly looks to be a good match and I'd like to take you up on your offer. I'll drop you an email with my address details.

(If anyone else has a similar wheel stud, please let me know as I'm after two of the b*ggers.)

          Re: Help....Wheel Studs!

Bruce - your unknown stud bears an uncanny resemblance to s standard Marina stud, a spare of which was lurking in my box of bits (not sure what happened to the other 15). I fitted a set of extra long Mini (or possibly Metro) ones to safely accomodate the Ribsters when I originally built my car. You can get them new from any reputable mini spares specialist and Rally Design do them as well.

Oops, sorry Bruce, I was trying to tidy this thread and deleted your photo. Can you re-send? (note that the size must be 64K or less)

                Re: Help....Wheel Studs!

Follow-up: Having knocked a stud out of my spare axle this one looks identical to your known Marina one...and is shorter than the other one I thought was original. So, I suspect the original was in fact a spare replacement...apologies for any confusion. However, they both fit (with appropriate persuasion), they just have a different profile. My guess would be someone put in replacement studs at some point to accomodate alloys...or there is a change point on OE studs. If you still need any email me at jezcox<at>tesco.net.

                  Re: Help....Wheel Studs!

Just a note of thanks to all those who helped during my recent rear axle rebuild, particularly Alan Hogg for the parts/advice and Ben of Bexley who sent a couple of surplus wheel studs to fit the hubs I was using. (I have been amazed at the number of different stud/hub combinations seemingly fitted to Marinas over the years!) Anyway, the upshot is I now a small collection of various studs myself so if anyone finds themselves in a similar predicament, give me a shout - I might be able to help!
